Sarajevo City Hall - Vijećnica where will EMF Euro 2024 draw take a place

The Sarajevo City Hall - Vijećnica town hall is located not far from Baščaršija and is one of the most beautiful and representative buildings from the Austro-Hungarian period, built in the pseudo-Moorish style.

The City Hall was officially opened on April 20, 1896, and was used for administrative and administrative purposes. After World War II, it was placed at the disposal of the National Library and remained in that function until the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In the night between August 25 and 26, 1992, it was hit by incendiary artillery projectiles. The fire irreversibly destroys the Town Hall, together with the huge library collection of the National University Library of about 2 million items. The renovation of the City Hall began in 1996 and lasted until 2014, and the complete reconstruction was done according to the original documentation.

The reconstructed City Hall was officially opened on May 9, 2014, on Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day. Today it is used in ceremonial occasions at the state and city level, for the promotion of cultural, artistic and economic events, along with permanent and occasional museum exhibitions, regular sessions of the City Council, and it seems that the variety of use is greater than ever before.
